Light could be the mechanism of our world’s motion. This helps explain the constancy of the speed of light, a mechanism of time and its arrow, 4th dimensional space, the link between space and time, time dilation, and more.
The Light Bubble
The basic premise is that light may decohere a universe that’s primarily wave-like into a universe that is particle, like what is observed in quantum experiments. The rate at which light is transforming waves into particles would be the speed of light. This speed wouldn’t necessarily be constant, but it might be.
The reason light speed is a constant for us, could be because all things we know are manifesting from particles brought into existence by light, at the speed of light. So all events we observe will occur at a rate relative to the particle manifestation rate, which is the speed of light. If light were to go faster, so would all the things that light is causing to manifest, proportionally, which means light speed will not change relative to our perspective.
It would mean that everything is moving at the speed of light, constantly. The physics of our body, when we aren’t moving 3 dimensionally, we are moving at the speed of light 4th dimensionally. But if we move in the third dimension, closer to the speed of light, it would be as if the wave-to-particle mechanisms are being used to move in that 3rd dimensional direction. Then, the physics of our body moving through the 4th dimension could no longer be moving at the speed of light and would be moving at the speed of light minus the speed we are traveling in the 3rd dimension. This is because light is the mechanism of all motion, all particle behaviors, and we cannot use light to move faster than light can move. It just wouldn’t make sense. So, time would dilate.
Another way to look at this is that if we are moving at the speed of light in 3D space,
our movement across the fourth dimension would be halted because we aren’t holding still enough to progress in that direction. The particles would not be stationary long enough to move forward in the fourth dimension because they would already be gone from that coordinate as soon as they arrived, meaning “time” would not pass. Meanwhile, at complete 3D standstill, then we would move at the speed of light in the fourth dimension. It’s if we can never stop moving at the speed of light.
Under this model, the fourth dimension would be explicitly spatial, not temporal, but because we are moving at the speed of light constantly, our measurement of 4D space and time should be completely coupled. It’s as if a fourth dimensional bubble of light is moving across the universe and we can only inhabit the wavefront of this light bubble because we are particles that exist because of light. The “past” and “future” may not have this light and as such do not have us. It’s like the block universe concept, but not quite. I would assume that the origin of this light bubble is the Big Bang, whatever that might be.
I suspect that true time is eternal, like presentism, but that change is happening at the light wave front. Change is how we recognize time, both past and present, and there is a fourth dimensional direction that this is all occurring. Though, as we see with time dilation, it happens in the other lower 3 dimensions as well, which factor in to some kind of total change budget which is determined by the rate of light turning waves into particles, which is the medium of that change or particle existence itself.
If we traveled backward to the past direction of the fourth dimension, I am not so sure we would find a copy of the past. Same for the future. The future may be entirely quantum, a place where this light bubble has not yet reached and not yet decohered into particles yet. Though, this framing about the “past” and “future” are not like we know. Observing them would not appear like the the previous present we experienced, nor the future present we are expected to experience. So, they aren’t really a past and future. They are a fourth dimensional location.
So you could imagine that there is a three dimensional flipbook playing out through the light wave expanding from 4D origin and we are trapped in the third dimension because of the way light is interacting with that space. As if the wavefront is a 3D plane of a fourth dimensional bubble, in a similar way as a balloon expanding with its surface acting like a 2D plane of sorts. And again, time is likely always passing, but we are trapped experiencing time from the mechanisms of this light bubble, which constrains things to its own properties, thus the constancy of the speed of light and the apparent relativity of “time” which is more like the relativity of the rate of change of ordinary physics moving through the fourth dimension, where technically we are always moving at the speed of light but it is budgeted to particular 4D directions, including the first 3 dimensions.
Time is not the 4th Dimension – Hyper Relativity
If we look at relativity of time and time dilation, it reveals that the fourth dimension may not be “time”. If we move near the speed of light in the 3rd dimension, then our travel through the 4th dimension is halted, “time dilation” we call it. But I think time continues moving outside of this. We simply use our observations of the rate of mechanisms occurring when we are moving at the speed of light in the 4th dimension to compare to other mechanisms to “measure time”. I think time continues moving during time dilation, and weirder, if things kept moving at the speed of light in the third dimension, then the 3rd dimension would begin to appear to behave like “time”, or a medium for evolutionary changes.
All of our observations are ones that have been adapted to the stability of moving at the speed of light through the 4th dimension. If we move at this speed in a 3rd dimensional direction, then we would be torn apart because we were not equipped or evolved under those new conditions. This speed in the 3rd dimension might even result in new physics, new particles, and new evolution of life adapted for those conditions eventually, but for us, they destroy us because all that we were molded to is now gone.
The clock moving at 3D light speed would stop moving because it was built for the 4th dimension light speed motion. It’s 4D dependent mechanisms would fail. It’s own stable form would even collapse. Our measurement of time passing is by measuring something like a clock moving at light speed in 4D and relying on mechanisms that require 4D motion to function.
I also suspect that if we stopped moving at light speed in the 4th dimension, simply existing at stable rest, some kind of life could eventually evolve for those conditions, and time would move for them too, they would be able to move, time would pass, and so on. It would be theoretically possible to design a clock that only operates under the conditions of moving at light speed in the 3rd dimension that would break apart if it stopped moving in that direction.
Really, everything we observe are essentially clocks moving at light speed in the fourth dimension. Even your very own body. The conditions in which the events we experience operate can be relative and rate dilate, but are not time. They just only work under these conditions.
Evolution of life favors awareness of the fourth dimension and grows in it because the 4th dimension has so much more happening than the dimensions where we aren’t moving at light speed. Moving at light speed means that very many events will happen in a short time. But the third dimension could be experienced as time too, if we evolved under a condition where the 4th dimension was not moving at light speed.
Dark Matter as the Past
Now, here’s where it gets exceedingly speculative. Dark matter could be the “past”. I realized this when wondering what things are like without light. Like if the “past” is dark and maybe that’s why we can’t see that spatial direction of the fourth dimension. Then it occurred to me that we already know of matter that is not interacting with light: dark matter. It could be that dark matter is not in our slice of the fourth dimension, as in, there’s no longer light there and the light in our slice cannot reach it because it is fourth dimensionally far away.
Perhaps gravity reaches beyond the fourth dimension, but light is trapped acting like a wave bubble so nothing on the 3D surface of the wave bubble can go backwards, as if we are held hostage, but gravity is free simply by virtue of having different properties and mechanisms. The gravity of matter in the fourth dimension would potentially have a receding influence on our 3D slice in proportion to its mass and distance. So perhaps the consistent mass we predict of dark matter in ratio to the matter we see is due to the proximity of mass in the fourth dimension remaining constant as we move forward in the fourth dimension and the dark matter accumulates.
To be clear, I’m not suggesting that dark matter is being created so much, at least not in any sense that would defy conservation of mass. Instead, its as if the way matter exists in the fourth dimension is conserved, and the present particles become expired to become dark matter, while the future “particles” are actually waves in superposition which allow for flexible interactions that light creates as it transforms the waves into particles.
We know that the dark matter structures form in very particular patterns, which seem to have been determined an extremely long time ago. It may be that as the structures grew with mass over time, the shape becomes predominantly influenced by the immensity of the growing past far more than the thin slice of the present that gets left behind currently. So we shouldn’t necessarily expect the shape of the dark matter to be the same as the slice of the present configuration that was left behind, especially if it stops having all the properties that light has caused it to have, so then perhaps the new frames of dark matter migrate to these supermassive structures. I imagine them to be like long weird tubes or bricks. Maybe star poop.
It’s worth noting that in this model, the “past” direction of the fourth dimension would still be moving in relation to universal time, thus this idea of migrating. These particles may not interact using light, but somehow they do seem to clump together as we observe. The implication is that time is actually moving for all points of the universe, including in the “future” and the “past” direction of the fourth dimension. In the future, it may all exist like a quantum soup of sorts. Waves without real interactions. Even with time moving, there wouldn’t really be events, or at least we shouldn’t currently expect that under this model. So, the past and the future may be rather boring, at least as spatial locations. This is also what I meant by time being eternal and universal. It is only the relative rate of changes in our physical experiences that appear locked to the properties of time because we are products of light.
On the expansion of space, the idea that we are a 3D plane on a 4D light bubble makes sense, except in relation to its acceleration. I thought maybe it’s something about the fourth dimension where the further we are from the origin where the bubble emanated, there’s less gravity or similar holding it back, and perhaps the light bubble accelerates. Or, perhaps the accumulation of dark matter is somehow a factor. Or anything. Any ideas?
