Derivation is probably highly safe in the humans and so only a few may test the boundaries into undiscovered territory. I think there’s risks associated with it but of course we could never have escalated to where we are without that, and what we are now is safer than things have been historically, for the most part. 

Essentially, I think there is a selection against creativity and novelty on some level because of the risk. As if we need to take baby steps in order to avoid destroying ourselves.
